Garry Hill admitted he was feeling the pressure ahead of Ebbsfleet's game against Notts County.

Fleet had lost their first five matches in the National League and were in danger of being cut adrift at the bottom.

But despite falling behind twice at Stonebridge Road, they fought back for a 2-2 draw and could easily have won.

Hill said: "I was probably a little more anxious today, a little bit more pumped up because it’s not easy whoever you are, whether you’ve been in the game five minutes or 30 years.

"The players are certainly backing what they feel is right in respect of what we’re trying to do.

"You’ve got to go for it. When you’re in the position we're in, you can either be nervous as a manager and put everybody behind the ball or come out fighting and we will always fight under my leadership.

"The character we showed was a very good response out there. We looked fit, we put a lot in on a very warm day and I’m very pleased to get a result.

"The league table doesn’t tell lies but the more we keep supporting the playing team, from the supporters and above, I have every faith and trust we’re going the right way."

Hill faced questions from supporters this week and spoke of his determination to get Ebbsfleet out of trouble.

He said: "We had a very enjoyable Q&A meeting on Thursday night at the club. It’s nice to be able to give people an opportunity and I think there was a lot of freshness came out of it.

"You could see the freshness as well today with the supporters getting behind the team, supporting them, and you could see the reaction at the end.

"It’s a point gained because we’re moving in the right direction. It’s nice to get something on the board.

"We showed a very positive attitude for a team sitting where we are in the league.

"Coming back twice and some of the football and the chances we created, we thoroughly deserved at least a draw over the 90 minutes.

"They were getting blocks in and we looked like the side who were really going for it. We even changed our formation and really went for it.

"You have to start somewhere and as much as we all want a win to get the ball rolling in the right direction, I think that everybody who watched that game would say you couldn’t question the commitment, ability and effort on the pitch, of the management team or the supporters here at the football club.

"It must have been a great game to watch because it was a great game to be on the touchline.

"There were some shots and efforts which couldn’t quite go in the back of the net so as much as I wanted to win here today, the No.1 thing was making sure we had some reward for the performance and the hard work we’ve put in.

"I’ll drive home and have little mixed feelings about this and that but the run we’ve been on, you could see that we didn’t warrant, with our commitment and our performances, a position in the league table which is a true position.

"I do feel we will move away from that area quite quickly."
