Wet and miserable afternoon for Fleet

CONSOLATION: Andy Drury

Scarborough 3 - 1 Gravesend & Northfleet

THREE goals in 12 first half minutes did the damage as Gravesend suffered a heavy defeat in wet conditions at Scarborough on Saturday.

After a cagey opening, the home side took the lead after 31 minutes.

The weather played its part as Ross Graham-Smith looked set to clear the ball before it held up allowing Brian Wake to nip in and beat Luke McShane.

Scarborough doubled their advantage six minutes later through an unfortunate Paul McCarthy own goal.

And it was 3-0 two minutes before the break as Kevin Nicholson’s free kick found its way in after a deflection.

Gravesend came a bit more into the match in the second half, especially after the sending off of Scarborough’s Paul Foot for a second bookable offence after 63 minutes.

Andy Drury, playing up front again for Fleet, pulled one back for Liam Daish’s side with 18 minutes to go after a fumble by Walker, but it proved to be a consolation.

Gravesend: McShane, Protheroe (Gooding 82), McCarthy, Graham-Smith, Skinner (Glozier h-t), Slatter, Saunders, Bowry (Moore h-t), Jackon, Drury, Sodje. Subs Not Used: Kerr, Surey.

Attendance: 1,207.
