A hub of community life for the young of Herne Bay has officially opened.

The £1million Parklife centre in Memorial Park includes a health clinic, nursery, activities area, an IT suite, tennis courts, TV screens and DVD facilities, pool and ping-pong tables, air hockey and table football.

Lisa Whitbread, from KCC, said: “Parklife is the first of its kind in Kent to provide services, advice and support for young people from birth to early 20s and their families.”

Around 100 young people, community figures and councillors attended the official opening.

They were given a tour of the Poppy children’s centre for babies and children up to five, and the Sparks youth centre for 13 to 19-year-olds.
