It then collided with another car and the occupants fled the scene.

A police spokesman said: "Following a search of the area, which was assisted by a police helicopter, a 31-year-old man from the Herne Bay area was arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle."

The suspect remains in custody as officers continue their investigation into the incident.
