Kent Police probe after jewellery stolen from Claybrooks in Herne Bay

An investigation has been launched after a gold necklace and bracelet were reportedly stolen from a town centre jewellers.

Three people, a man and two women, are alleged to have swiped the items from Claybrooks in William Street, Herne Bay, on Saturday, May 4.

After entering the store at about 4.20pm, they told staff they wanted to buy the two pieces of jewellery.

The suspects stood next to the counter for several minutes as the valuables were being packed before leaving the store, saying they needed to withdraw extra cash to purchase the goods.

Staff later noticed the jewellery had been stolen when the trio failed to return.

The man is thought to be in his 60s and was wearing a long black jacket, waist coat, multi-coloured scarf, blue trousers and black shoes.

One of the women is said to be between 50- and 60-years-old and the other in her 20s. They were both wearing dark clothes.

Claybrooks was raided by a man wielding an axe two years ago. No-one has been prosecuted for the offence.

Police are urging any witnesses or anyone with information about the theft to call them on 01843 222289, quoting the reference number 46/84963/19.
