Hammer attack in Herne Bay leaves man critical

The condition of a man attacked with a hammer in Herne Bay has deteriorated, police have revealed.

The 54-year-old was rushed to hospital after he was brutally assaulted in Mortimer Street on Friday night.

Paramedics initially concluded his injuries were not life-threatening, but his condition worsened while receiving treatment in hospital and he is now said to be critical, but stable.

The attack is reported to have happened between 7.25pm and 7.30pm near the junction with East Street.

The victim was reportedly punched, kicked and hit with a hammer.
