A long-awaited pedestrian crossing has arrived in Herne Bay and is expected to be lifted into place on Sunday.

The new structure - which will open alongside Blacksole Bridge - will cross the railway and link the Altira Business Park with Beltinge and Mickleburgh Hill.

The 51-metre bridge has been built off site and arrived in the town today.

It is expected to be lifted into place on Sunday at 11am, with the railway line shut from 2am on Sunday for 24 hours.

The bridge is set to open on Tuesday, April 26.

There were fears the crossing, which has been paid for in developer contributions, would not open after Sainsbury's pulled out of the town last Monday.
