Bomb squad officers were at a house in Seabrook near Hythe this evening following the arrest of a 35-year-old man.

It is believed the emergency services were called to Paraker Way, early this afternoon.

A police spokesman said: "They are at the scene making inquiries with the explosive ordnance disposal who are examining materials found."

It is understood the search might involved ammunition rather than an explosive device.

Witness Kirsty MacDonald said: "Me and my best friend drove past at about 6pm when we noticed one police car and an unmarked car with blue lights on at the bottom of the road, that joins Spring Lane.

"We turned around and went around the estate to the top of Paraker Way.

"There was a car blocking the road and two police officers patrolling. At the bottom there were eight to 10 officers around the van."

The 30-year-old Folkestone resident added: "Paraker Way is unfortunately known for the wrong reasons.

"There's drugs and sorts that happen regularly. A lot of drink and unsociable behaviour."
