Man, 53, dies in crash on Ashford Road, Sellindge as lorry driver held

A lorry driver has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving after a man died in a crash.

The 53-year-old victim, from Hythe, died after a collision between a car and lorry at Ashford Road, Newingreen.

They now say they have arrested a 42-year-old lorry driver of a foreign-registered vehicle on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

The crash happened on the A20 opposite Folkestone Racecourse.

A section of the road, between the junctions of Stone Street and Otterpool Lane, was expected to remain closed for several hours today to allow forensic examination and evidence gathering.

Two fire engines, from the Ashford and Folkestone stations, had been among the emergency services called out to the accident scene.

Officers from Kent Police’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU) need witnesses.

In particular they would like to hear from the drivers of two large and two smaller goods vehicles that were travelling along the A20, from Ashford towards Cheriton, around the time of the collision.
