A Kent man is in the running to win a TV talent show as he prepares to perform in the potentially life-changing final this weekend.

Aaron Bentley, 22, has been gaining popularity in the BBC One contest, Let it Shine, which is headed by Take That lead singer Gary Barlow.

The aim is to select five boys to form a boy band who will also sing some of the Take That’s greatest hits among other tracks.

Last weekend, Mr Bentley, who is known as AJ on the show, performed with his four other band members who call themselves Five to Five.

He said it felt amazing to get a a standing ovation from the judges, which includes Spandau Ballet’s Martin Kemp, singer Dannii Minogue and guest judge Ashley Roberts who used to be in Amercian girl group, The Pussycat Dolls.

Mr Bentley said: “Gary Barlow said we were perfection which is just amazing.

“I can’t believe I’m in the final and so close to achieving my dream.

“We’re singing two songs this week and then the public vote opens to vote for the favourite band.

“I’d love for people to pick up the phone and make this dream come true.”

Gary Barlow said the claims were "utter rubbish".

Last weekend they played a selection of Take That songs with the superstars and the other competing bands.

The final will see Five to Five go head-to-head with rivals Nightfall and Drive.

The former Brockhill Park student also said Robbie Williams will be appearing on the panel this weekend, to help with the judging in this crucial round.

He added: “My absolute idol Robbie Williams is on the panel, so I’m not sure if I’m even going to be able to get any words out.

“Other than that I’m just blessed to be in the position I’m in and want to thank everyone who has voted for me to get this far.”

Let it Shine is back on BBC One this Saturday at 6.45pm.
