Fire crews cut person free from car on its side in School Road, Hythe

A driver had to be cut free after his car crashed and ended up on its side.

Emergency crews were called to School Road in Saltwood, Hythe just after 9.30pm last night.

Firefighters arrived to find the man trapped in the wreckage and used a saber saw to access him.

They spent almost an hour stabilising the Saab and removing the casualty, who was then left in the care of paramedics.

Firefighter Richard Gatehouse said: "We took off the roof of the car and with paramedics we got the gentleman out on a longboard."

The victim, aged about 50, was initially treated at the scene and taken by ambulance the William Harvey Hospital in Ashford but his injuries were not thought to be life threatening.

Two fire engines, from the Folkestone and Dymchurch stations, were called out.
