Hythe Town’s wait to enter this year’s FA Vase is at an end.

Following byes through the first two rounds of the competition earned as a reward for their superb displays in the last couple of seasons, Paul Fisk’s side take on Combined Counties League, Premier Division side Egham Town at Reachfields this Saturday, in the first round proper.

After losing just once so far this season, hopes are high of a good run in the competition, but manager Fisk is erring on the side of caution.

“The tie against Egham gives us a great chance to progress to the next round,” he said. “We are at home and they haven’t started the season so well, so that makes us favourites.

“Its hard to get carried away about the Vase at this stage, however. If we progress through three or four rounds then we will begin to think about having a chance in the competition.

“Before then, you’d have to say the chances of winning are small due to the large amount of good sides in the competition.”

If Hythe do progress, the second round awaits on November 15, giving them plenty of time to concentrate on forthcoming league games at Faversham, Herne Bay and Holmesdale.

It has been another superb start to the season for the Reachfield team, unbeaten in the Bulmers Cider Kent Premier League and with a top FA Cup scalp under their belts
