A mannequin manufacturer saw its revenues squeezed after a big customer in the USA went bust.

Adjustoform, which makes models used by dressmakers, incurred a 6% fall in sales to £3.9 million, according to its latest accounts.

However, some declines were mitigated by improved sales in Europe.

The Ashford company, which employs about 40 people, made pre-tax profits of £219,000, down marginally on the previous year, in the 12 months to the end of September 2016.

In his company report, managing director David Hunt said gross profit margin decreased from 37% to 31% “due to increased input costs, pricing pressure and increased volume of promotional lower margin products”.

The firm was a finalist in the medium business of the year category at the 2017 KEiBA business awards.
