A data centre business has launched a new site in Los Angeles following a big contract win, after pausing its expansion plans in the wake of the Brexit vote.

VooServers, based in Maidstone, will put 100 servers in the Californian city in the latest phase of its international expansion, which will support its services in New York.

The firm, which provides cloud and IT systems for businesses, was founded in 2005 by entrepreneur Matt Parkinson while he was still at Howard School in Rainham.

As well as its US expansion, the company has also increased the capacity of its data centre in Frankfurt by five times.

The expansion follows a new contract with online gaming software business WTFast for servers in the UK, LA and Frankfurt.

Mr Parkinson said: “We’re delighted to be able to proceed with our ambitious expansion plans.

“We had originally intended to increase the capacity of our Frankfurt datacentre earlier in the summer but put plans on hold with all the uncertainty around Brexit..." - Matt Parkinson, VooServers

“We had originally intended to increase the capacity of our Frankfurt datacentre earlier in the summer but put plans on hold with all the uncertainty around Brexit.

“The contract with WTFast provided the ideal opportunity to proceed and by adding an LA datacentre and increasing our presence in Germany we can locate IT infrastructure closer to where our clients are.

“It also has advantages in terms of being more innovative and mobile with the services we offer.”

VooServers employs eight full-time staff and serves 300 active clients, supporting 1,000 servers in more than 80 countries.

Steve Wray, network manager at WTFast said: “We deal with more than 70 different hosting providers around the world to give customers the best gameplay experience.

“Seamless communication with these hosting providers is extremely important and any delay can affect customers’ connectivity.

“VooServers were highly recommended to us for their great service and I’m confident they will deliver in this critical location.”
