Go Speed withdraws from track bid

AN APPEAL against Swale Borough Council's refusal to approve a speedway track in Sittingbourne's Central Park stadium has been withdrawn.

Councillors rejected the application last December over concerns about noise levels but the applicants, Go Speed, claimed it would benefit the wider community.

Go Speed wanted to use the track in Church Road, Murston, on weekday evenings for a maximum of 28 evenings a year from March to October.

Murston Cllr Clive Wherrell (Lib Dem) said: "Myself and other local councillors are absolutely delighted that the appeal has been withdrawn and we know that residents are equally relieved."

Swale Borough Council is considering selling off Central Park to its resident tenants, Cearnsport but some councillors have spoken out against the plan, fearing for the consequences to Sittingbourne Football Club.
