Handmade Canterbury campaign bids to attract shoppers to independent retailers

From jewellers to chocolate makers, independent shops in part of Kent are pulling together to attract punters this Christmas.

Handmade Canterbury has put together a series of videos and social media activity to encourage shoppers to visit artisan retailers.

Launched at the city's Christmas lights switch-on, the campaign features products like Canterbury Gin from The Foundry, chocolate from Madam Oiseau Fine Chocolates and jewellery from Ortwin Thyssen Jewellery Maker.

It also features Canterbury Glass Art, Canterbury Pottery and The Sewing Shop.

The initiative has been organised by Canterbury Connected Business Improvement District, a business-led, business-funded partnership.

Firms which are part of the group are charged a 1.5% levy, with that cash ringfenced for schemes that benefit the area.
