More than 100 people came to a public exhibition on plans to build 28 houses on the site of a cladding business in a rural village.

The two, three and four-bedroom homes have been proposed for a location in Nonington, between Canterbury and Dover.

The site is occupied by Prima Windows, which has yet to decide on its relocation plans despite the land being bought by Ashford-based GSE Developments.

Canterbury’s Clague Architects has been appointed to design the scheme, which is on a site identified in the Dover Local Plan as suitable for 40 new homes.

A planning application is expected to be submitted by the end of May.

GSE Developments director Josh Healey said: “We think we have an attractive scheme which will help to sustain the village of Nonington.

"We were very pleased with the positive comments we received."

Clague Architects managing partner Karl Elliott said: “The proposals are sensitive to the village’s existing buildings, in particular the four Grade II listed houses close to the site and the conservation area.

“We are collating the feedback received at the exhibition and where concerns were raised, over highways issues for example, we will work to address those in our final planning application.”
