Do you or a loved one need help with drug or alcohol misuse?

This therapeutic programme from Kenward Trust offers a unique and brilliant helping hand.

Kenward Trust is a nationally recognised charity that has provided primary and secondary stage residential rehabilitation for over 50 years to communities and youth programmes across Kent, Medway and East Sussex.

The NHS estimates that around 9% of men in the UK and 3% of UK women show signs of alcohol dependence.

“Our programme is a Therapeutic Community; working with men and women and offering them expertise in dealing with drug and alcohol addiction through recovery, resettlement and reintegration programmes,” said Penny Williams who is the Chief Executive at Kenward Trust.

“This therapeutic programme incorporates recovery focussed group work, counselling/art psychotherapy, social enterprise and education sessions.

“The project teams at Kenward Trust are highly skilled and experienced at supporting individuals through the delicate and challenging process of change, within a safe and supported environment.”

Kenward Trust is set in 15 acres of beautiful Kent countryside and serves as the perfect location for the residents taking part in the therapeutic programme.

“The location is ideal because it allows our residents to be taken out of the environment in which their addiction thrived,” she continued.

“The grounds also allows the residents a lot of reflection time both on themselves, and on the lessons being taught in their therapeutic sessions, which they wouldn’t get if they were still in a busy city.

“Residents are encouraged to take responsibility for their own emotions and behaviours.

“Through group working, they can positively and pragmatically address former addictive behaviours and lifestyles.”

One fundamental part of the programme is Kenward Trust’s Social Enterprise because it offers an exciting range of activities for the residents, recovery graduates and volunteers to improve their social interaction, achieve greater personal development and acquire new skills and qualifications.

Some of those social enterprise activities include interesting and useful hobbies such as woodwork, horticulture, animal management and cooking.

Kenward Trust have social enterprise businesses, namely Kenward Conference Centre, Sage & Time Cafe and Charitique Charity Shop to further support the charity.

Penny Williams: "Everyone at Kenward Trust is passionate about supporting and assisting individuals who face complex issues such as substance misuse.”

Another vital component is the Educational Services which is available for residents to take part in.

A bespoke learning plan is created based on the wants and needs of each individual resident that helps them gain qualifications or, in some cases, helps them begin to enjoy learning again.

And the support doesn’t end there.

Kenward Trust also has Move On housing for those that have been through a first stage recovery programme to offer substance free, supported accommodation for men and women in recovery.

Other popular projects include ‘Think Differently’ and ‘Kenward in the Community’ which engage with young people, families, employers and other agencies across the community to educate, inform and advise on all matters related to the causes and consequences of drug and alcohol dependence.

There is also ‘Reset Project’, which is a volunteer led mentor service that identifies and caters for the needs of individuals being released from prisons around the country and resettling in Kent.
