Friends, Romans, countrymen, lend me your Kent Crisps!

That’s the plea ringing out across bars in the Italian capital after a taste of the Garden of England raised a chorus of “si, per favore.”

Birchington-based Quex Foods, which produces the crisps from Kentish potatoes, has landed its first export deal since the award-winning brand launched a year ago.

The company has delivered more than 7,000 packets to British-style bars in Rome, including The Albert in the Via del Traforo and The Lord Litchfield in Via Luca Valerio.

Four flavours - Oyster and Vinegar, Ashmore Cheese and Onion, Sea Salt, and Biddenden Cider Vinegar and Sea Salt - are served during the Eternal City’s traditional cocktail hour.

Many bars in the capital follow the tradition of serving stuzzichini (snacks) to tempt customers during the early-evening aperitivo when Italians enjoy complimentary finger food before going to dinner.

Anthony Curwen, managing director of Quex Foods, said: “We have already exceeded our sales expectations and this is another first for Kent Crisps.

"Now expats seeking a taste of home as well as local citizens exploring British culture can enjoy the unique flavours of the Garden of England.”
