Kent's mid-range firms make the grade

Kent produce suppliers and insurers are highlighted in a league table of Britain's top medium-sized companies.

Fresh produce wholesaler the Fresca Group, based in Paddock Wood, ranks 86th in the Sunday Times Top Track 250, which lists mid-ranking private businesses by sales achieved

Owned by the Mack family - chairman is Christopher Mack - Fresca supplies, prepares, packs and delivers fresh produce to customers all over the UK. Sales are listed as £296.6 million in the last financial year.

Maidstone-based insurer Towergate appears in 112th place, with sales listed as £268.9 million.

And food transporter and marketer, AG Thames, based at Crayford, ranks 148th. Sales at this firm, which employs 480, are given as £230.5 million.

Airline operator Flybe, based in Exeter, topped the list, with sales of £535.9 million.
