A decorating contractor which fitted-out the Olympic Park and the Shard has secured £880,000 of refinancing from the bank to invest in the business.

Lucas, which won the KEiBA Business Commitment to the Environment award in June, aims to continue growth which has seen it become an official technology partner of F1 team McLaren.

Products developed in its labs include a surface coating for buildings, named Lucas Breathe, which reduces the harmful gases in the air like nitrous oxide pollution from traffic.

Its cash injection comes from a £10 billion fund launched by HSBC this year to help growing small and medium-sized businesses, of which it allocated £200 million to Kent.

Lucas secured the cash with advisory firm Meta Corporate Finance, which helped executive chairman and managing director Danny Lucas take control of the business from his father Sam in a management buyout seven years ago.

Since then, Meta’s founder Mark Ledger-Beadell has attended quarterly strategy meetings at the Wrotham-based firm and helped it recruit financial director Sean Rowbotham, who was one of its associates.

Mr Lucas said: “This refinancing exercise allows Lucas to continue to invest in the business.

“Meta Corporate Finance have always provided good advice and Mark always makes valuable contributions to our strategy meetings.”

Alan Hopkins, HSBC’s area director in Kent, said: “Lucas is an ambitious company that has been recognised with a number of impressive industry awards, we look forward to seeing what more they can do in the future.”
