Jonathan Shaw has criticised Morrisons' handling of matters in a letter to Sir Kenneth Morrison
The depot in Forstal Road, Aylesford, is due to be sold by Morrisons

MORRISONS boss Sir Kenneth Morrison has been blasted by a Kent MP over the treatment of staff at its distribution depot.

In a personal letter to the chief executive, Jonathan Shaw (Lab), MP for Chatham and Aylesford, said Morrisons’ handling of matters at the depot in Forstal Road, Aylesford, was "disgraceful" and he called on the supermarket chief to confirm when the site would close.

In his letter, Mr Shaw said he had received numerous complaints from staff as to the way Morrisons had conducted itself. The company, he said, had failed to "communicate, supply information, or respond to staff correspondence".

With Christmas approaching, the MP called on Sir Kenneth to take action and ensure each of his staff received information on a redundancy package.

Workers union the GMB backed Mr Shaw. Aylesford representative Jeff Goswell said: "Mr Shaw is absolutely right. Information has been appalling, hard to come by. We have had to drag information out of them."

The workers union is in debate with supermarket bosses over an offer to end the consultation period before its formal conclusion date on January 11.

A Morrisons spokesman said the company could state only that it was in consultation with staff and was not able to comment further.
