KEiBA 2010

More enterprises than ever before have defied recession to bid for a top prize.

The Kent Excellence in Business Awards (KEiBA) have attracted a record number of entries, easily beating the figure for last year's inaugural event.

The deadline passed with entries from more than 150 businesses, voluntary sector organisations and individuals - a rise of 20 per cent. With some entering two categories, the overall total has smashed through the 200 barrier.

The judges now face the challenge of choosing 33 outstanding finalists. Winners will be announced at a glittering gala in Chatham Historic Dockyard in July.

Kevin Lynes, KCC's Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Economic Development, said: "Despite the recession this year, it's really good to see so many Kent businesses being nominated. We were impressed with the calibre and number of entries last year; to see so many more this year truly justifies the KEiBAs as the county's premier business awards. I can't wait to meet the finalists and congratulate the winners at the ceremony in July."

Geraldine Allinson, KM Group chairman, said: "The increase in entries for KEiBA this year shows how important it is to business that there is an opportunity to celebrate achievement. It is very heartening, in such tough times, to see that so many of Kent's businesses have such impressive success stories. I am sure that the judges will have a tough job whittling these entries down to just 33 finalists".

KEiBA 2010 is organised by the KM Group on behalf of Kent County Council. Sponsors include Brachers LLP, Vertex Law, Kent Adult Social Services, Kent Film Office, Visit Kent, Southeastern, GSE Group, Headley Brothers, IoD Kent, Heart FM, Kent Foundation, Skanska, HR GO, Belmont Insurance, Business Support Kent.

The award categories are: Large Business, Small and Medium Enterprise Business, Start Up Business, Best Business in Adult Social Care, Best Business from the Creative Industries, Best Leisure and Tourism Business, Employer, Business Commitment to the Community, Customer Service and Commitment, Entrepreneur and Young Entrepreneur.
