PUBS, clubs, hotels and restaurants are being encouraged to do their bit for the environment and save discarded glass bottles - free of charge.

Recycle-more-glass is a free service developed by Valpak, which collects bottles without needing them separated according to colour.

Licensees from south-east Maidstone and Canterbury are being encouraged to sign up. Purple bins provided for the glass are emptied as needed.

Rosalind Dorning, market development manager at Recycle-more-glass said: "We provide businesses with an efficient and trouble-free service which means they can do their bit for the environment without having to commit large amounts of time or money."

Of 2.2 million tonnes of glass available for recycling in the UK only around 26% reaches the recycling companies. Recycle-more-glass aim to increase this amount by 1 million tonnes over the next four years.
