A touchscreen designer and manufacturer improved revenues by more than a quarter after cementing its place in the schools market.

Sales at Sahara Presentation Systems plc improved by 26% to £47.8m last year, its latest accounts reveal.

Bosses said pre-tax profits jumped by 24% to £5.7m as it launched new products and demand increased for its Cleverproducts range.

The Dartford business has appointed a number of distributors overseas to promote its tablets and electronic boards in countries investing in interactive technologies.

In his company report, financial director Nigel Batley said growth for 2017 is expected to be above the figure achieved in 2016.

He said: “Clevertouch continues to be the leading touch screen product used in schools in the UK.

“The directors expect exports will continue to grow over the next few years.”

The accounts also reveal the firm made £241,000 on the sale of its former premises in Erith.

It moved to a new 290,047 sq ft site with its logistic partner Europa Worldwide Group in 2015.

In April, Sahara paid £300,000 for digital signage firm Sedao, with up to £256,000 of possible future payments depending on the company’s performance.

The company, which employs about 70 people, has foundations going back to 1924 when it was a typewriter company.
