Union claims £2,000 South East weighting rise

THE UK's largest union has launched a campaign for a minimum £2,000 pay weighting for all public service and utilities workers in the South East.

UNISON launched its campaign with activities across the region aimed at bringing the union's demand to the attention of employers and politicians.

UNISON South East Regional Secretary Phil Wood said the campaign seeks to put the issue of South East weighting high on the industrial relations agenda.

Brendan Nee, the union's South East Manager Campaigning, said: "The launch is in advance of a high profile South East Regional Weighting conference later this year to be addressed by Cabinet Member Andrew Smith, an advocate of the need to recognise the pay plight of workers in the South East with its high cost of living."
