A POLICE operation aimed at disrupting the supply of drugs and cracking down on anti-social behaviour has resulted in two arrests.

The action by Kent Police in Medway took place at the weekend and involved targeted uniformed patrols utilising the Automatic Number Place Recognition system (ANPR).

The technology instantly alerts officers if a vehicle has been stolen, is known to be involved in a crime, or is untaxed.

Sally Smith, police media and communications officer for Medway, said: "Two men were arrested, one on suspicion of assault. He has been bailed pending further enquiries. Another man was arrested and bailed for possessing class A drugs."

Three cars were seized as they were not insured. Of the four people breathalysed none had been drinking and driving.

Sgt Kevin Downard, who led the operation, said: "The ANPR system helps us to target the cars we stop and as a result little disruption is caused to law-abiding motorists.

"It was encouraging that none of the drivers who were breathalysed had been drinking and I hope that this is an indication that drivers are taking notice of our road safety campaigns."
