High Sheriff of Kent’s Justice Service

About 30 Mayors from all parts of Kent attended a Justice Service held by the High Sheriff of Kent, Mrs. Jane Rogers, at All Saints’ Parish Church, Maidstone.

The 150 strong congregation was largely made up of members of Kent’s legal profession, including 20 judges and as many magistrates and past High Sheriffs. Among the judges were Judge Williams and Judge Patience QC., the lead judges at Canterbury and Maidstone Crown Courts.

During his sermon about the decline of family and Christian values, The Rev. Canon Christopher Morgan-Jones mentioned that Lawrence Washington, father of American President George Washington, is buried in All Saints Church yard. He was clerk to the Borough Council, Sheriff and Member of Parliament.

The High Court Judge, Rt. Hon. Lord Clarke of Stone-cum-Ebony, read one of the lessons.
