FOUR people were arrested near Priestfield Stadium after Saturday’s match between Gillingham and Leeds United, it has been revealed.

A 44-year-old man from Chatham was arrested and cautioned for public disorder. A man of 45-year-old and a 16-year-old, both from Hampshire, were arrested in Livingstone Road and each given an £80 fine for disorder.

A 39-year-old man was also arrested on suspicion of public disorder but later released without charge.

Ch Insp Peter Wedlake said: "The vast majority of fans were well behaved and enjoyed an entertaining game.

"It was disappointing that arrests were necessary. However, we cannot turn a blind eye to the minority who seek to spoil the event by acting antisocially.

"We are proud to have a high profile football team in our town and will continue to support the club so that the safety of fans is ensured at future matches."
