The A2 has been closed in both directions after a multi-car pile-up near Gravesend.

Four cars and one van were involved in the crash, at around 5.15pm today.

A police spokesman said police, fire and ambulance were dealing with the collision - with an air ambulance landing on the carriageway shortly after 5.30pm.

Tailbacks had already stretched back five miles from the Gravesend east junction by 6pm, after the crash on the coastbound carriageway.

Cars were said to be turned around on the road, with debris littering the London-bound carriageway.
