A patient who was hit by a car just minutes after leaving an A&E department has died.

The man, who has not been named, had arrived at Medway Maritime Hospital Gillingham, on Friday morning.

He was awaiting assessment by its mental health team when he become agitated and left shortly after midday.

A short time later he was hit by a car in nearby Longfellow Road, Gillingham.

He suffered a cardiac arrest and was brought back to the hospital at 12.27pm where he was admitted to intensive care.

His condition was described as serious but stable on Friday but he died the following day.
