Animal cruelty charge after kitten's death

A man has been charged with animal cruelty following the death of a 14-week-old kitten.

Grant Hurlbert, of St John's Road, Gillingham, was arrested after an incident which is said to have led to the death of the pet at his home.

The 26-year-old left the property and was later arrested by officers who found him in a nearby shop.

Hurlbert was taken to Medway Police Station and charged with animal cruelty.

He was also accused of common assault, criminal damage, assault on a police officer and possession of cannabis.

Hurlbert was remanded in custody and appeared at Medway Magistrates' Court on Saturday where he was granted bail.

He is due to appear before magistrates again on Thursday.
