POLICE have made an appeal for information after a man died in hospital following a crash on one of the county's busiest roads.

The 57-year-old victim was driving along the coastbound carriageway of the A2 at Cobham, near Gravesend, when his car crossed the central reservation and collided with a black taxi travelling on the London-bound side.

He had to be cut from his green Rover car by crews from Thameside fire station in Northfleet. He was taken to Dartford's Darent Valley Hospital with serious injuries, but he later died. He lived in the Crayford area.

The driver of the taxi escaped with minor injuries. The accident happened at about 4.15am on Saturday. Police are appealing for witnesses to contact them. Anyone with information is asked to call PC Guy Miller on 01622 798538.
