TWO young men were found lying injured in a road in the county early on New Year's Day.

The two 25-year-olds were discovered at the junction of St Peters Park and Crawford roads, St Peters, Broadstairs, at 3.15am.

One of the men, who is from St Peters, suffered serious head and chest injuries and on Tuesday was being treated in the Intensive Therapy Unit at the Queen Elizabeth Queen Mother Hospital, although his injuries are not believed to be life threatening.

The other man, from Ramsgate, was released after treatment but has been unable to tell police how the two of them were injured.

Police are appealing for witnesses. Det Sgt Richard Vickery said: "We need to find out how the men came about their injuries. We know that they had been out in Broadstairs and had walked home along St Peters Park Road.

"They must have been seen by other people also on their way home between 2am and when they were found in the road."

One witness has reported seeing two men walk from the area and into Crawford Road and police are appealing for these men to come forward so that they can piece together what happened.

Anyone with any information is urged to contact police on 01843 222291 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
