Kent League chairman Denise Richmond

Safety Net Kent League chairman Denise Richmond has said Ashford will be accepted into the league - if the clubs accept them.

Ashford resigned from the Ryman League on Tuesday and immediately declared their intention to drop down a level to the Kent League.

The Kent League will have to call an extraordinary general meeting to admit Ashford to their constitution.

"As far as we are aware Ashford are still under suspension by the FA , and whilst we have been aware of the financial difficulties no-one, including the Ryman League and the FA, was sure what Ashford's intentions were," admitted Ms Richmond (pictured).

"The decision as to whether Ashford will be admitted into the league will be down to our clubs, whether the suspension has been lifted by the FA and all debts cleared I should imagine. No real decision can be made until the suspension is lifted.

"Under league rules we need to call an extraordinary general meeting where clubs will vote on whether to accept Ashford.

"Nothing can happen for a week, however, as we need to give seven days' notice to member clubs for the egm."

If Ashford do opt for a future in the Safety Net Kent League, it will boost the Premier Division to 17 clubs after the earlier demotion of VCD from the Ryman League.
