The mother of a 15-year-old who required hospital treatment after being assaulted at his school has spoken of her anger that his return to school was marred by coming face-to-face with one of his alleged attackers.

Kelly Dray says her son Torren was so shocked and upset by the encounter she had to collect him from Tenterden’s Homewood School last Friday after he had taken one of his GCSE exams.

Mrs Dray of Singleton said: "My son is trying to do his GCSEs and yet they are allowed to come to school to carry on their education."

The attack happened on the school field on June 3 and was reportedly filmed on up to four mobile camera phones. That footage is being reviewed by police after three students were arrested. They have been bailed pending further inquiries.

Torren was treated at the William Harvey Hospital twice.

Mrs Dray said: "Since then he has been screaming in the night and crying and I can't get him to go out of the house any more."

According to Mrs Dray, the assault was witnessed by more than 20 children and she has appealed to them to help the police investigation.

William Cotterell, principal of Homewood, said: "The students who were involved with the incident have been separated out from the main body of the year group for their examinations – as indeed has the student who was assaulted."
