Baby 'critical' after two-car crash

A ONE-year-old baby was today critically ill in hospital following an accident involving two cars in Hampstead Lane at Yalding, near Maidstone.

The youngster was airlifted to Maidstone Hospital after the crash which happened at around midday today. Police say the child's injuries are life-threatening.

A woman, who had to be cut out of her vehicle by firefighters, was also flown to hospital by the same Kent Air Ambulance crew.

Police say a two-year child and a three-year old child and two adults inside one of two Vauxhall Vectras involved in the smash also suffered minor injuries.

A stretch of road between Hampstead Lane and Lees Road was shut while investigations into the cause of the accident got underway.
