A baby admitted to hospital with serious injuries is recovering, according to police.

Kent Police said the baby - who was one month old when he was admitted before Christmas - has improved in hospital.

They are investigating how multiple injuries were caused.

A man, 35 and a woman, 33, both from Gravesend, had been arrested and bailed while enquiries continue. The police have not said when they have to return to the police station.

Chief Superintendent Neil Jerome said:"At this time the baby is improving and is making a good recovery.

"The baby's well-being is our top priority, and once it is safe to do so my officers will continue with the investigation to find out how the injuries were caused and whether any criminal offences have been committed.

"I will keep you updated as soon as there is fresh information and once again would like to thank you for your co-operation."

The incident led to a wave of emotion sweeping through Gravesend as vigils were held in tribute to the baby.

Candles were lit, teddy bears left and prayers were read out at nearby St Aidan's Church in Gravesend.

The Rev Richard Martin said: "We did pray for the child over Christmas and the Sundays leading up to it, It is delightful news that the child is making a recovery. It is also good to see how people who don't usually turn to prayer have turned to do so."
