A man denied committing a murder in Gravesend almost seven years ago when he appeared at Maidstone Crown Court today.

Kamaljit Kalon

Baljinder Singh Kooner, also known as Jindi, will now stand trial on June 14. It is expected to last four weeks.

Kooner, 34, of no fixed address, is accused of killing Kamaljit Kalon, known as Bobby, at Gordon Promenade in July 2003.

Mr Kalon, who was 31 and from Sidcup, died from multiple stab wounds in a frenzied attack.

Guljinder Singh Gurewal, 34, formerly of Edwin Street, Gravesend, admitted the murder and was jailed for life, with a minimum tariff of 13 years, in September 2008.

Kooner was arrested in Paris and extradited to the UK in October last year. Judge Jeremy Carey remanded him in custody.
