POLICE were this evening attempting to recover a body from the River Medway.

They were alerted by a member of the public at 3.45pm.

Officers were called to Herying Close, Halling, which is next to the river.

Insp Michael Millen said: "We cannot say if the body is male or female or give any other details at this stage.

"The body has not yet been lifted from the water."
