Bomb disposal experts called out to Whitstable home

Police and Royal Logistics Corps vehicles after chemicals were found in a poperty in Ham Shades Lane, Whitstable on Friday morning.

Bomb disposal teams have been called to a Whitstable house following the discovery of suspicious packages and chemicals.

Army experts are currently examining materials found in the garage of a empty house in Ham Shades Lane on Friday morning.

Elizabeth Richardson, who has been clearing out the house of her late father, found chemicals used in bomb disposal around 9am.

He worked as a bomb disposal expert in the RAF in the second world war.

Mrs Richardson said: "We found the chemicals in a box and thought that we better phone the police just to be on the safe side."

Police spokesman Amanda Wills confirmed bomb disposal experts from Tilbury in Essex were called out as a precaution.

She said: "Chemicals and liquids in silver tubes were discovered and experts are handling the situation.

"They will make a full assessment on what action to take."
