A sat nav was stolen and a bottle lobbed at the windscreen of an ambulance while crews attended to an elderly patient in Maidstone.

South East Coast Ambulance Service NHS Trust says lives were potentially put at risk by the incident, which happened when crews were called to an emergency in Nottingham Avenue, Maidstone.

Another ambulance was sent to the scene and took the patient to Maidstone Hospital.

Senior operations manager Chris Stamp said: "The satellite navigation screens are useless if taken as they are not self contained navigation systems. The navigation software is installed into the vehicle's computer system.

"Therefore all this theft has served to do is prevent us from helping those who need us the most."

The incident happened at 12.10am Sunday, November 22, but details have only just been released.
