Boy, 7, dies outside school

Flowers left at Loose Junior School

A seven-year-old boy has died after he collapsed at his primary school.

Benjamin Percival was taken ill while playing football at Loose Junior School, Loose Road, Maidstone, at about 3.30pm on Thursday afternoon.

He was tended to by paramedics at the scene but later died at Maidstone Hospital.

Hay Pye, head teacher of Loose Junior School, said: "We are all extremely shocked and saddened by the news of Benjamin Percival's death.

"Our thoughts and deepest sympathies are with his family at this most difficult time.

"Benjamin was a popular and much-loved pupil who will be greatly missed.

"We have explained what has happened to the children and have been offering all the support they need.

"A book of condolences will be available after the holiday for children, parents and staff to send their messages and memories of Benjamin to this family."

The Kent Air Ambulance attended but Benjamin was taken by South East Coast Ambulance to hospital.

Police were also called and a patrol car accompanied the ambualnce to hospital.

It is not known how the youngster died. A post mortem was due to be held today.

Floral tributes have been left at the school gates and members of the Maidstone Neighbourhood Team visited the school on Friday morning to offer support to children, parents and staff.
