A brawl between two pairs of brothers at a family get-together has led to three of them facing prison sentences.

Jamie and Shaun Ewell, of Musgrave Road, Sittingbourne, were convicted of affray by a jury at Maidstone Crown Court.

Jamie and Perry Rothery, from Lewisham in south east London, were both cleared of the same charge - but Jamie Rothery admitted before the start of the trial causing injury to three other party-goers when he drove his car at them.

Judge Jeremy Carey told the 24-year-old that jail for him was now inevitable, while Jamie, 28, and Shaun, 26, Ewell are “in great peril” of the same fate.
All three were, however, released on bail until they are sentenced on September 17.

The jury of 10 men and two women heard that violence broke out at Merlin’s in Leysdown in April last year.

A large group of people were at the entertainment complex to commemorate the life of Julie Calder who had died two months earlier.

Trouble flared between the Ewells and Rotherys, said prosecutor Andrew Espley, during a game of pool.

Perry Rothery, 27, suffered a stab wound to his neck during the fracas and eventually all four were ejected.

The Rotherys, the court was told, found themselves outnumbered and tried to get away in Jamie Rothery’s Peugeot 306.
However, he drove on the wrong side of the road without his headlights on into a group of people, injuring one of them seriously.

During the trial Rothery claimed he only wanted to scare people and was not using his car as a weapon.

He pleaded guilty to wounding Sam Postacioglu with intent, and assaulting Alice Enright and Jason Upton causing actual bodily harm.
