The decline of Christianity has left a moral vacuum which has fragmented British society.
Those are the stinging words from the Bishop of Rochester, The Right Rev Michael Nazir-Ali, in one of his most candid and explosive interviews so far.
Speaking to the Conservative magazine Standpoint, Dr Nazir-Ali pointed to a "rapid fragmentation of society and the emergence of isolated communities".
That left a "moral vacuum" which radical Islam threatened to fill.
He criticised the rise in liberal values, leaving the country mired in a doctrine of endless self-indulgence.
And he dated the downfall of Christianity to the "social and sexual revolution" of the 'sixties.
