Ten-man Welling were dumped out of the FA Cup by two second-half penalties at Bromley on Saturday.

The Wings were in complete control of their second qualifying round tie at Hayes Lane until Anthony Acheampong’s red card.

Leading by Loick Pires’ 16th-minute header, Welling saw their supremacy end when Acheampong (pictured) fouled Hakeem Araba in the 54th minute.

Danny Waldren tucked away the spot-kick and the impressive Bromley midfielder made no mistake second time around, slotting home after Ben Martin’s challenge on Warren McBean.

The returning Andy Pugh and Joe Healy had already gone close for Welling, who made four changes from the 1-1 league draw between the two sides seven days earlier.

Once ahead, Acheampong escaped giving away a penalty for a poor challenge on Waldren on 22 minutes.

Healy then saw his low drive come back off the far post after a quick Day free-kick and Pugh curled his shot straight at keeper Tommy Forecast.

Loui Fazakerley, playing in midfield, had a low drive that Forecast turned behind for a corner and Pugh lobbed over with his back to goal.

Bromley’s best opening saw Gareth Williams fire wide but, in truth, Welling should have had more to show for their efforts.

Instead, they were to pay the ultimate price, two rash challenges resulted in two yellow cards. Referee Barry Holderness got those decisions right but his apparent insistence on staying 40 yards away from any challenge created more problems for him.

He was unmoved late on when Jack Parkinson went down in the box following a free-kick and despite the introductions of Lee Clarke and Luis Cumbers, Welling were unable to salvage a replay.
