Cash point robbery at A2 in Cobham

Robbers target cashpoint at A2, Cobham

This is the terrifying moment security guards were attacked by men wielding a baseball bat and a samurai sword.

Police investigating the cashpoint robbery at Cobham have released these graphic images.

It comes after two guards attending to a cash machine were attacked by two men wearing balaclavas.

The men were armed with a baseball bat and a Samurai sword, at around 2pm on Friday, August 26 on the A2 Londonbound carriageway.

Both security guards were taken to hospital. One suffered a brusied leg, while the other was treated for shock.

Two vehicles, thought to have been used in the robbery, were seized by police.

Detective Inspector Ian Dampier, who is heading the investigation, said: "We know that the suspects were initially driving a black Mercedes van which they abandoned in Cobsdene, Gravesend, before transferring into a black Audi RS4 Quatro.

"This vehicle, which is quite rare, was seen to leave Cobsdene and was later found abandoned in Alfred Road, Hawley.

"I would like to ask anyone who may any information about this incident to contact Kent Police."

A substantial amount of cash was stolen in the robbery.

No arrests have been made, but the vehicles will be closely scrutinised for forensic evidence.
