‘The Union’ which has been released by Chapel Down vineyard to celebrate the royal wedding.

Kent drinkers have a special reason to celebrate the royal wedding.

For not only will they be able to toast happy couple Prince William and Kate Middleton with a special Kentish brew, they could also be quaffing some Kentish fizz.

Brewers Shepherd Neame, based in Faversham, have concocted a right royal ale to mark the couple's nuptials on April 29.

Aptly titled Royal Wedding Ale, the beer is 4.7 strength and a limited edition. And a cask may soon be heading on its way to a certain London address.

Meanwhile Kent's street parties shouldn't lack fizz, as a sparking wine made in Tenterden will be on sale.

Only 2,011 bottles of 'The Union’, a 2006 Pinot Noir Chardonnay, will be released by the Chapel Down vineyard in Smallhythe.

The bottles cost £24.99 and vineyard staff say they should be reserved to toast the newly-weds.

The wine fuses two classic grapes, with the chardonnay providing “elegance and finesse” while the pinot noir gives “depth and texture”. Drinkers have been left to guess which of the couple each grape represents.

Chapel Down boss Frazer Thompson said: “This is a new release we are incredibly proud of. It has great finesse, life-affirming sparkle and impeccably understated good taste.”
