Charlton's Deon Burton

Charlton came from behind against Southampton to claim a point that ended their 100 per cent start to the League 1 season but did take them back to the top of the table.

Deon Burton earned the Addicks a point in a bad-tempered clash, which ended with Charlton manager Phil Parkinson and Alan Pardew, his predecessor and former boss at The Valley, failing to shake hands.

The visitors went in front in the 41st minute when Adam Lallana was on hand to score from Wayne Thomas's ball in.

But the hosts were only behind for eight minutes and Burton restored parity when he bundled Jonjo Shelvey's cross home from close range.

Charlton had the better of the second half but twice had goals ruled out for offside - Shelvey and Burton the unlucky men.

Addicks fans were also left frustrated that Lloyd Sam was had a strong penalty appeal turned down on 58 minutes when Dan Harding appeared to manhandle the winger.

Addicks: Elliot, Richardson, Youga, Llera, Semedo, Dailly, Bailey, Shelvey, Racon, Sam (Wagstaff 86), Burton.

Subs not used: Randolph, Basey, Sodje, Solly, Tuna, McLeod.
