Pennies Nursery, Maidstone

A young child suffered a fractured bone while at nursery.

The infant was in the garden at Pennies Nursery, in Hockers Lane, Weavering, in Maidstone, at the time of the incident.

It is unclear what caused the injury to the bone between the hip and the knee, known as the femur, as it was not witnessed by staff.

In a report published by Ofsted on Saturday, the nursery team admitted employees were not ‘deployed effectively’ and the initial assessment and treatment of the injury ‘could have been better’.

The education and childcare watchdog was made aware of the injury by the nursery.

A manager at Pennies said the team volunteered to supply Ofsted with a host of information regarding the site’s safeguarding and promotion of children’s welfare.

Ofsted said it is satisfied with its findings.
